Linda WHITNEY
Linda WHITNEY
Born in Minnesota, grew up in Fargo, North Dakota, USA
Lives and works in Valley City, North Dakota, USA
“Whitney is known for her mezzotints that investigate the various textures found in the regalia of powwow dancers. The athletic movement of each style of powwow dancers is an important element to both the celebration itself and to Whitney’s work. Her large and small mezzotint images are portraits, not of the dancers, but of the regalia they wear. Her exceptional talent and unique creative vision culminate in a powerful signature style. She creates works of great beauty while also raising out awareness about the rich heritage of Native America culture, important historical events and humanity’s blind-sighted flaws. Furthermore, her numerous career accomplishments meet our criteria of rewarding artistic excellence.”
